Keep pedaling

This may be the shortest post I’ll do.

But it may be the most important.

It’s had everything to do with any kind of success I’ve had.

And I learned it when I was in the height of depression.

I started cycling class during that time because I was told exercise is like an anti-depressant.

But it had all the good effects and none of the bad.

Typically about halfway through the class, I wanted to quit. I didn’t feel like it, my body didn’t seem to want it, and my mind certainly wasn’t there.

But it was at this time I developed one of my mantras, which I still use today.

It went like this:

If I quit pedaling, I have no chance of getting there (meaning a better me).

If I keep pedaling at least I have a chance to make it.

If I quit pedaling, I have no chance of getting there.

If I keep pedaling at least I have a chance to make it.

So I usually kept pedaling.

I took this mantra from the gym to the office.

At the time that I was crashing, so was my business.

I wrote down this mantra and pinned it up in front of me, to see every day.

It helped keep me going and got me back on track.

One of the things that separate successful entrepreneurs and salespeople from becoming also-rans, is the willingness to do the things you don’t want to do.

  • To keep pedaling when you feel like quitting.
  • To get up one more day and go to work.
  • To finish a project that seems to never end.

So, here’s your Action Item and mission, should you decide to accept it:

Write down your mantra that keeps you pedaling when you just don’t feel like it. Put it in front of you. And let it help push you to do great things.

As a side benefit, doing the important things when you don’t feel like doing them, is usually when you make the most progress.

This week separate yourself from the wannabe’s. Push when you don’t feel like it.

And I’ll see you at the finish line.
